Irish Driver Theory Practice Test

In low visibility conditions, such as fog, heavy rain, or snow, it is essential for drivers to prioritize safety by reducing speed and using dipped headlights. The rationale behind this is that reducing speed provides more time to react to any hazards that may be present on the road, which can be difficult to see in poor visibility.

Using dipped headlights instead of high beams is crucial because high beams can create glare and reflect off water droplets, fog, or any low-hanging clouds, making visibility even worse. Dipped headlights, on the other hand, provide enough illumination for the driver to see the road ahead without creating excessive glare for themselves or other road users.

Keeping headlights off is unsafe as it significantly diminishes a driver’s ability to see and be seen by others, while driving at normal speed fails to account for the reduced visibility, increasing the risk of accidents. Hence, the recommended action in these conditions is to reduce speed and ensure that dipped headlights are used for optimal visibility and safety.
